Differential vs Single Ended (Signal Generators)

Differential signal generators are available to aid the user in stimulating the differential input contacts of the chip IOcells.

A single ended signal generator creates a single voltage output with user specified characteristics.
A differential signal generator has two output terminals. The upper, or positive, terminal will generate a signal of the following form in relation to its single ended counterpart:

= (Single Ended Output / 2) + Common Mode Voltage Offset

Similarly, the lower, or negative, terminal will generate a signal of the following form in relation to its single ended counterpart:

= (-1 × Single Ended Output / 2) + Common Mode Voltage Offset


When a signal generator is being moved during placement, clicking the right mouse button will toggle the signal generator to become either single-ended or differential:
